Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: School cinema week: School classes are flocking to films like never before

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Despite Netflix and Co., watching films together in the cinema is very popular with children and young people. This year's school cinema week set a record with more than 24,000 viewers, as the non-profit Filmland Mecklenburg-Vorpommern GmbH announced on Monday. 835 school classes flocked to the participating cinemas last week. The previous record was 21,800 visitors in the pre-Corona year 2019.

During school cinema week, 73 films were screened in 27 cinemas across the country for teachers to choose from. According to the information, the best-attended film was "Alfons Zitterbacke - Endlich Klassenfahrt" with more than 2,600 children, which was filmed on Usedom, among other places. The documentary "Willi and the Miracle Toad" followed in second and third place with more than 1600 viewers and the teen comedy "The most beautiful girl in the world" with a good 1000 viewers.

The cinemas offered a total of 356 screenings last week. In the coming days there will be a few more appointments, it said. Project manager André Lehmann was surprised by the great response. Apparently they made the right choice of film, he said. There was also an extensive additional programme. According to Lehmann, media educators and experts visited the cinemas at special events to discuss the films with the school classes.
