Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Schwesig subsequently honors recipients of the Federal Cross of Merit

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's Prime Minister, Manuela Schwesig, honored recipients of the Federal Cross of Merit in Schwerin on Saturday. Because of the corona pandemic, a corresponding event had not been possible in the past two years, according to a statement from the State Chancellery. "That's why most of you have already received the medal," the SPD politician was quoted as saying.

The award is recognition for long-term achievements that went far beyond the normal level. "They get involved in their village, their town. They are active in nature conservation or in sports. They all make a major contribution to strengthening social cohesion in our society." Especially in times of concern about security in Europe, about Corona or energy security, a culture of togetherness is particularly important. Schwesig thanked the recipients for their commitment.

Helmut Pratzel was honored for his activities in Sarow (Mecklenburgische Seenplatte district); Ralph Schattkowsky for his commitment to German-Polish academic dialogue; the President of the State Anglers' Association, Karl-Heinz Brillowski; Bodo Clemens for his work in the health sector; Michael Evers for his commitment first for SSC Schwerin, then for SSC Palmberg Schwerin; Friedhelm Hein from Greifswald for his many years of social commitment in Namibia; Klaus Hirrich from Wangelin for his environmental and nature conservation activities; Angela Martin from Güstrow for her commitment to environmental protection; Heike Nörenberg from Zarrentin am Schalsee for her commitment to hearing-impaired children in East Africa; Marita Richter for dealing with experiences of injustice in the GDR; Arvid Schnauer from Rostock for his commitment during the peaceful revolution and for coming to terms with injustice in the GDR and the development of Rostock; Gisela Schwarz for her commitment to local politics in the city of Hagenow and in the district of Ludwigslust-Parchim and Reinhard Wegener from Buxtehude for his commitment to war graves care.
