The accidents happened within a short time on Wednesday afternoon and evening near Greifswald, in Stralsund and Niepars (West Pomerania-Rügen) and in Ueckermünde, as a police spokesman said on Thursday. Three people were seriously injured when a 29-year-old driver failed to overtake on federal highway 109 near Greifswald.

The 29-year-old overtook a truck and crashed his car into a taxi that was driving in front of the truck and suddenly turned left. The truck was also involved in the accident. The overtaker, his passenger and the 64-year-old taxi driver were taken to a clinic with serious injuries. The damage was estimated at approximately 50,000 euros. The B109 was blocked for two hours during rush hour.

Almost at the same time, a cyclist in Stralsund crashed into a street lamp and an e-bike rider in Ueckermünde crashed into a traffic light for unknown reasons. The 60-year-old man from Stralsund suffered life-threatening injuries. He was revived at the scene of the accident. The man is said not to have worn a bicycle helmet. The 85-year-old e-bike rider in Ueckermünde was found after the fall by a police officer who provided first aid. The elderly woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Not far from Stralsund near Niepars, a 65-year-old driver was also seriously injured when his car left the federal highway 105 for an unknown reason. The car only stopped a little way off the road and was badly damaged. The driver came to a clinic by helicopter.
