Rostock/Stralsund (dpa/mv) - Because of a series of mobile home thefts in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a perpetrator was sentenced to six and a half years in prison on Tuesday in Rostock. The district court found him guilty of eight counts of aggravated gang theft and two counts of attempted aggravated gang theft. In addition, the court ordered the confiscation of around 286,000 euros from the man, as a court spokeswoman announced on Tuesday evening.
The public prosecutor had asked for seven years and three months imprisonment, the defense a much lower prison sentence. The trial against the man had begun in the summer. He and an alleged accomplice were charged with a total of 20 RV thefts. The stolen vehicles are said to have been brought to Eastern Europe. Most of the crime scenes were in the Stralsund and Greifswald regions.
The two men from Poland were stopped in October 2021 on Autobahn 20 between Lübeck and Rostock when they were traveling east in a stolen mobile home. The trial had started against both men but had been separated due to illness. The trial against the alleged accomplice is scheduled to continue on December 14th and 16th.
