Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Special cabinet meeting on the shipbuilding transfer company

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Employees of the insolvent MV shipyards can continue to hope to find work in shipbuilding in the future. Because there are serious takeover prospects for the locations in Wismar and Rostock-Warnemünde, the state government in Schwerin wants to extend the transfer company for the remaining 1,500 shipyard workers beyond June. Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) announced that the cabinet would discuss a corresponding proposal from the responsible Ministers for Economics and Finance in a special session on Thursday (10 a.m.).

The armaments company ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems in Kiel is interested in Wismar. The Navy intends to set up an arsenal for ship maintenance and repairs in Rostock. The shipyard site in Stralsund was taken over by the city after the insolvency of the MV shipyards in January in order to develop a maritime business park there. With the extension of the transfer company, skilled workers should be kept at the shipyard locations until the restart.
