Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: speed camera trailer set on fire – 160,000 euros in damage

Dierhagen (dpa / mv) - Unknown people set a so-called speed camera trailer on fire in Dierhagen (West Pomerania-Rügen). The fire on Tuesday evening caused damage of 160,000 euros, a police spokesman said on Wednesday. Firefighters extinguished the flames. The mobile speed measurement system was located on a busy access road in the town between the L21, the main traffic axis of the Fischland-Darß peninsula, and the Baltic Sea beach. The police are investigating on suspicion of intentional arson. A fire expert had previously ruled out a technical defect as the cause. It is unclear whether the camera recordings are still readable.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, there are attacks on speed measuring systems at irregular intervals, behind which mostly caught speeders are suspected. A flash device burned recently on federal highway 197 between Anklam and Neubrandenburg. This was first smashed and then infected. There were also attacks on strong branches on federal highway 192 and an arson attack on a speed camera trailer in Röbel.
