Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: SSC Palmberg Schwerin succeeds in surprising Potsdam

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The SSC Palmberg Schwerin made an exclamation point in the volleyball Bundesliga at the end of the year. The team of head coach Felix Koslowski won the top game on Friday evening 3:1 (25:21, 17:25, 28:26, 25:19) at SC Potsdam and inflicted the first defeat of the season on the table leader, who had previously lost no points in nine games.

Despite the problems in the preparation due to some sick players such as the setters Pia Kästner and Pia Fernau, the SSC largely dominated the first round. Potsdam was able to briefly create tension with the interim 20:21, but a little later Schwerin converted the first of three set balls. In the second period, however, Potsdam controlled the game. The hosts quickly pulled away to 15:4 and didn't let the set be taken away.

The third round was dramatic. Schwerin was already leading 18:13, but later had to fend off two set balls. The Koslowski team finally managed to secure the 2-1 lead with their third set ball. It was also clear that the SSC had inflicted at least the first point loss of the season on the Potsdam women. However, the Mecklenburg women were not satisfied with that and then also decided the fourth set and thus the game for themselves.
