Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: State approves millions for vaccination centers and test sites

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is preparing for an increasing number of corona infections in autumn. On Thursday, the state parliament approved plans by the state government to provide funds from the MV protection fund to finance vaccination centers and test facilities in rural areas. 12 million euros are earmarked for the operation of the eight vaccination centers in the districts and urban districts. The state is planning subsidies of 800,000 euros for test facilities.

Although MPs from the opposition once again expressed their fundamental criticism of the multi-billion dollar protection fund, the majority of them also agreed to the use of funds. Only the AfD rejected the plans. There are medical practices for vaccinations, corona citizen tests should be paid for privately or by companies, it was said as a reason.

The state government decided on a corona strategy for autumn and winter on Tuesday. Travel restrictions, school closures or strict contact bans should no longer exist in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Instead, an eight-point plan is intended to help keep the corona pandemic under control. The government wants to continue to promote protective and booster vaccinations and also ensure sufficient vaccination options.
