Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: State capital Schwerin is planning for the gas emergency

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The city of Schwerin is currently collecting data on the energy supply from operators of the so-called critical infrastructure in order to be prepared for a supply bottleneck. "At the moment, our civil protection experts are determining the needs and planning, among other things, measures for civil protection, averting danger, securing the critical infrastructure and the ability of the city administration and utility companies to work," said Bernd Nottebaum, head of the regulatory department, on Monday. This is based on forecasts by the Federal Government and the Federal Network Agency.

In the course of the throttling of gas supplies by the Russian government, both the federal government and the EU had warned in recent weeks against a complete halt to energy supplies.

The serial letter from the city administration, which was sent to institutions in the healthcare, housing, transport and energy supply sectors, asks for contact information and above all data on electricity, gas, heat and drinking water supplies, along with the corresponding emergency plans. For anyone who has not received a letter, there is a corresponding form on the city administration's website, it said.

Nottebaum called on companies to help collect the data: "You are helping to prepare for the challenges ahead and enabling us to take effective precautions."
