Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The state commissioner for dealing with the SED dictatorship in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Anne Drescher, will present her activity report for 2022 in Schwerin on Tuesday (1.30 p.m.). For people who were persecuted in the GDR and suffered injustice, the authority is still an important contact point more than 30 years after the fall of the Wall. Several hundred victims seek help and advice every year.
Many are concerned with pension entitlements, which are often formally very low as a result of political persecution and health consequences. Improvements are only possible with the help of complicated rehabilitation procedures. In the previous year, Drescher had therefore called for a simpler recognition of GDR injustice and damage to health. The success rate so far is just under 10 percent.
