Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: State minister relieved: EU billion in funding is coming

Schwerin/Brussels (dpa/mv) - The European Commission has approved the national strategic plan for the EU's Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). "This is a good sign for the future of agriculture, rural areas and nature and the environment in our state," said State Minister of Agriculture Till Backhaus (SPD) on Monday in Schwerin.

Between 2023 and 2027, the North East will have around 320 million euros available for direct payments from the German funding budget. There is also money for the development of rural areas, 956 million euros are available for the entire period, around one third of which is co-financed by the federal government.

"It is important for farmers that the applications can be made and that they can be sure that the CAP strategic plan has been approved," said the minister. The way for this has been clear since Thursday. According to Backhaus, in addition to paludiculture and moor-friendly dam management, animal husbandry operations in organic farming should also be supported. They rely on both tried-and-tested programs as well as new ones.
