Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: State sets deadline: Buga decision must be made by June 10th

Schwerin/Rostock (dpa/mv) - Immediately before the meeting of the Rostock Buga supervisory board on Tuesday afternoon, the state government pointed out the urgency of decisions on the part of the Hanseatic city. The state is expecting reliable information from the city by June 10 at the latest on how the construction progress for the Federal Horticultural Show should be designed, said Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus (SPD) on Tuesday. With a view to the planned Buga opening on April 26, 2025, he made it clear that none of the planned major projects have yet been approved.

This applies in particular to the Warnow Bridge, which is the heart of the Federal Garden Show. Backhaus once again made it clear that there could be no federal garden show without the bridge.

At the same time, he emphasized that the state stood by the commitment of 110 million euros for the Buga and the new building of the Volkstheater. However, it must be clear to everyone involved that the projects planned in the Hanseatic city must be seen in a context. The new construction of the Archaeological State Museum, for which additional land must be gained in the Warnow river bed, can only be started when the bridge construction is at least well advanced.

Interior Minister Christian level (SPD) asked the city to prioritize the planning for the Buga and the projects involved. Other new buildings would have to be postponed until then.
