Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Tax offices will soon be better informed about online private transactions

Rostock (dpa/mv) - According to tax consultants, very active private sellers on online platforms should record their transactions precisely because of a new law. "In the future, there will be improved verifiability of platform transactions by the tax authorities," said the MV tax consultants' association on Saturday.

The Platforms Tax Transparency Act, which came into force at the beginning of the year, obliges the platforms to report the data to the tax authorities if they make more than 30 sales a year or have a turnover of more than 2000 euros per year. A report does not automatically mean that there are also taxable transactions. However, there could be more frequent inquiries from the authorities. Private sellers and service providers should therefore record and document their transactions precisely.

According to the information, the law applies to platforms that enable users to contact each other via the Internet and to conclude legal transactions. This includes platforms such as Ebay, Amazon, but also, for example, the accommodation portal Airbnb.

It was further stated that the sale of everyday objects was not subject to taxation. However, the term is not legally defined. This could include furniture, household goods and used vehicles. In case of doubt, the individual case must be examined.
