Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Taxpayers' Association denounces cases of waste in MV

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - In its latest black book, the taxpayers' association also denounces six cases of alleged waste in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Four made it into the print edition, two more can be found in the online edition, said the managing director of the Association of Taxpayers in MV, Diana Behr, on Wednesday. The state government has been the focus of criticism four times.

The taxpayers' association complained that 910,000 euros from the state treasury were paid for three special concerts by the New York Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in Peenemünde on Usedom last summer. This was expensive image maintenance for the state government - a lasting effect on tourism is not to be expected. For all music festivals together, the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is spending around 400,000 euros this year.

When granting a loan of 88 million US dollars to the MV shipyards, which have meanwhile gone bankrupt, the country did not hedge against currency risks. This handling of tax money is grossly negligent.

In Anklam (Vorpommern-Greifswald district), the taxpayers' association sees a threatening use of tax: There, the city is planning to purchase a scrap freighter for 50,000 euros from a private person. The conversion to an "event ship" is under discussion for 4.5 to 5.5 million euros. The city is deep in the red.
