The weather service had already warned of extreme thunderstorms on Saturday and thus at the highest warning level.

The weather service called on people in the affected region to close windows and doors and secure outdoor objects. Anyone who is out and about despite the forecast thunderstorm should keep their distance from buildings, trees and high-voltage lines. However, it is best not to be outdoors.

On the website of the DWD it was also said that heavy rain of 20 to 35 liters per square meter is possible during the day - occasionally up to 40 liters per square meter could come from the sky. In addition, there were warnings of wind and gusts of wind between 50 and 70 kilometers per hour, in extreme cases, according to the forecast, hurricane-like gusts of between 90 and 110 kilometers per hour could also occur. People should also prepare for hail with a diameter of up to two centimeters.

On Monday, these storms could continue at a local level, with rainfall of around 35 liters per square meter, hail and severe gusts of around 100 kilometers per hour.
