Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: The left demands another relief package for citizens from the federal government

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The left-wing faction in the Schwerin state parliament has called for another relief package from the federal government because of the high inflation. "With an inflation rate of 8.1 percent, the value measured for our federal state is half a percentage point higher than the national average," said the left-wing faction's financial policy spokesman, Torsten Koplin, on Tuesday in Schwerin. "While inflation across Germany fell by 0.3 percent in June compared to May, it rose by this amount in the north-east of the republic." He accused the federal traffic light coalition of inaction in view of the development.

Koplin sees the need for further relief, otherwise there is a risk of entire sections of the population becoming impoverished. He called for a price cap for electricity and heating as well as an immediate surcharge of 200 euros per month for citizens who receive basic security.
