Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The wave of refugees from Ukraine brought Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania a slight population increase in the first half of 2022. Although 7,186 more people died than were born in the first six months of this year, the number of residents has increased by 16,296 to 1,627,456 since the beginning of the year, as the State Statistical Office announced on Monday. The reason: 39,106 people moved to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, while only 15,304 moved away. This results in a so-called migration gain of 23,802 inhabitants. All rural districts and urban districts recorded an increase in the number of inhabitants.
