Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Third ATM blast in 2023: the search for the perpetrator continues

Leezen (dpa/mv) - For the third time this year, strangers blew up an ATM in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This time an ATM in Leezen near Schwerin was affected on Tuesday, as a police spokesman said on Wednesday. The search for the fugitive perpetrators and their getaway car is still ongoing. Police are hoping for more witnesses. Neighbors had reported loud bangs. The ATM, which was in a kind of container as a self-service branch, was completely destroyed.

The property damage was initially estimated at a five-digit sum. It is not yet clear if and how much cash was stolen. Most recently, ATMs were affected in mid-January in a bank branch in Zarrentin (Ludwigslust-Parchim) and a few days before that in a savings bank in Strasburg (Vorpommern-Greifswald). Police are still searching for three suspects who were seen fleeing Zarrentin with a dark-colored car and stolen license plates.
