Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Tourism in MV: beds full, mood restrained

The Corona pandemic has already put a real damper on Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's holiday industry, which has been spoiled by success. Now come the effects of the Ukraine war.

Rostock (dpa/mv) - According to the state tourism association, the mood in the holiday industry in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is somewhat more subdued than in previous years, despite good bed occupancy. "The very high demand pressure of the past few years - including the two Corona years - is currently not recognizable," said association manager Tobias Woitendorf of the German Press Agency.

The current uncertain situation in world politics is also reflected in people's holiday behavior. "People save: either because they already have to save or because they have the idea that it would make sense to keep the money together," said Woitendorf. This is not yet reflected in the current bookings, but rather in the daily holiday events. Sometimes going to the restaurant or going on an excursion is foregone. Some providers could also feel compelled to restrict energy-intensive offers such as wellness areas.

At the same time, many people are again focusing on holiday destinations that were difficult or impossible to reach during the corona pandemic. Acute personnel problems can also be felt in some parts of the industry. Therefore, some offers are restricted, which can be seen in some restaurants or on promenades, where the number of stands has decreased, said Woitendorf. "Where there are fewer offers, there are fewer people on the road."

The mood in the industry is also influenced by the fact that there is currently little hope for an improvement in the global political situation. This also has a direct impact on the future plans of companies, which, for example, shy away from expensive and necessary investments.
