Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Two cyclists seriously injured in collisions

Ivenack/Greifswald (dpa/mv) - Two cyclists were seriously injured in two accidents on Thursday in eastern Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Police say one of them is life-threatening. As a police spokesman said on Friday morning, the 16-year-old was hit by a car in a district of Ivenack (Mecklenburg Lake District).

The teenager rolled his bike out of a driveway onto the street. A 36-year-old driver hit him. The teenager was taken to a clinic in Neubrandenburg with life-threatening injuries, and his condition is still critical.

Almost at the same time, a 66-year-old cyclist was seriously injured in a collision with a van in Greifswald. According to initial investigations, the cyclist had ignored the right of way of the van at an intersection.

The 38-year-old driver braked, but was no longer able to prevent the collision with the bike. The 66-year-old was still responsive. In both cases, the drivers were not injured. The damage was estimated at around 5000 euros each. Experts should examine the accident more closely.
