Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: University Medicine Greifswald: More public funds for projects

Greifswald (dpa/mv) - Researchers at the University Medicine Greifswald (UMG) have recently raised more public funds for their projects than ever before. In 2021, almost 27 million euros of these so-called third-party funds could be spent, the UMG announced on Wednesday. The money comes from the EU, the federal government or the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Third-party funds are raised in addition to the regular university budget. Scientists apply for the funds for their work and also compete with each other. The amount of money raised is also used as a yardstick for the scientific reputation of a university.

Numerous employees were paid from the additional income. The number of publications by scientists from the University Medicine Greifswald in recognized specialist journals also reached a record in 2021.
