Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Viewpoint on Königsstuhl on Rügen is too: rush

The Königsstuhl on Rügen has been closed off since Sunday. The 118 meter high vantage point is to be changed. As early as next week there will be movement in the area around the barrier.

Sassnitz (dpa/mv) - No more views on the Königsstuhl on the island of Rügen: the famous vantage point at a height of 118 meters was officially cordoned off on Sunday. On Sunday, many people took the opportunity again and ran to the famous chalk cliff. "We still had a lot of guests today, including many locals who enjoyed the view one last time," said a spokeswoman for the Königsstuhl National Park Center on Sunday of the German Press Agency. A total of around 1,300 people were there, more than usual on a September Sunday. The area is now secured with an archway and historic lock.

In the coming week, however, there will already be movement in the area again. Then the dismantling should begin before the new viewpoint can be installed, as the spokeswoman said.

The new so-called Königsweg is scheduled to open in spring 2023. The construction, which is suspended from a mast, is intended to hover over the rock and thus protect it from erosion. According to the information, the Skywalk is already ready. The large mast is scheduled for delivery in early October. According to the spokeswoman, around 300,000 people have visited the Königsstuhl a year so far.
