Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: woman froze to death: trial for failure to provide assistance

Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - After the frostbite of a woman, a 57-year-old man has had to answer to the Neubrandenburg district court since Tuesday. He is accused of, among other things, failure to provide assistance. The public prosecutor accuses the Neustrelitzer of having pulled an acquaintance outside after a drinking session in December 2019 and left it in the cold. The woman was found lifeless the next morning with a body temperature of 19 degrees. Rescuers could no longer help her. At the beginning of the trial, however, the accused denied that he had taken the woman out of his apartment.

The incident happened after the drinking session with card games on December 14, 2019 in the Altstrelitz district. As the defendant said, several people had met there. When most had already left, according to the indictment, the victim suddenly collapsed in the apartment. A witness told the police that the accused, who lived alone, is said to have taken the woman outside.

The man denied that on Tuesday. At that point he was so drunk himself that he didn't notice when people left. His wife, who lives separately from him, confirmed that the 57-year-old regularly fell asleep suddenly after drinking alcohol.

The accused found the scantily clad, frozen woman himself the next morning and called the police. The trial will resume on August 11th. Then, among other things, the witness who described the accused as the perpetrator should be heard.
