Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Women are six percent behind men in wages

According to the State Statistical Office, women in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have been earning around six percent less on average for years than men. The wage gap between the sexes is the smallest in a comparison of all federal states in MV - but it is constant, the office said on Thursday with a view to International Women's Day on March 8th. In Germany as a whole, the wage gap is 18 percent.

According to the office, the scope of work is closely linked to income. Women in the Northeast work an average of 34 hours a week, men 39.1 hours. While just over half of the women - around 55 percent - work full-time, it is almost 87 percent for men.

The office can prove that women are cutting back when it comes to raising children: starting at the age of 30, the average gross hourly earnings of women in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are consistently below those of men, it said. This is the age when children come. When the first child was born, mothers in MV in 2021 were 29.3 years old on average.
