Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Wrong nurses steal from 88 and 90-year-olds

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The Schwerin police are warning of thefts by the wrong nurses on current occasions. A police spokeswoman said on Tuesday that two women living in two different assisted-living facilities were victims of one such duo of thieves over the Pentecost weekend. Jewelry and cash were stolen from the 88 and 90-year-old women. The incidents occurred on Saturday in the districts of Neumühle in western Schwerin and Feldstadt in the center. There have also been other attempts.

According to the investigations so far, one of the wanted women was admitted under the pretext that she was part of the facility's staff. While the unknown woman, aged between 20 and 30, was distracting the respective senior citizen, a second perpetrator gained access and searched the apartment without the pensioner noticing at first. The police did not provide any information on the extent of the damage.

The officers are looking for an approximately 1.60 meter tall, slim suspect with light-colored outerwear, dark trousers and dark hair. Residents of care facilities should not let staff who have not been announced to them into their rooms, it said. In case of doubt, residents should confirm a change by telephone with the institution responsible for the facility.
