Christmas is just around the corner - the first Christmas without Queen Elizabeth II. But of course the memory of her is still wide awake. Princess Kate recalls the late monarch's "incredible legacy"
Shortly before Christmas, Princess Kate commemorated Queen Elizabeth II, who died in September. The 40-year-old explained in a video message that Christmas was a special time for the Queen. "Her Majesty loved Christmas - as a time to bring people together and remind us of the importance of faith, friendship and family, empathy and compassion," Kate said.
The recording was apparently made during preparations for a service on December 15 at Westminster Abbey. The Princess of Wales hosted the celebration for the second time this year to thank people who care for others. A recording of the ceremony can be seen on British television on Christmas Eve.
Princess Kate wears a dark, glittery outfit in the video. She also explains: "Last year's event reminded me of what I love most about Christmas: seeing people come together, celebrate and experience special moments while at the same time thinking about the past year."
Hundreds of "inspirational personalities" have been invited to Westminster Abbey, it says. "They are the ones who demonstrate the power of connection and community, and allow us to continue Her Majesty's tradition of recognizing and thanking those who have gone above and beyond to support others," Kate said. "Her Majesty leaves us an incredible legacy that has deeply inspired many of us."
Kate also said of the event: "This year's service is dedicated to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and all those who are sadly no longer with us. Although Christmas will feel very different this year, we can still cherish the memories we share together and bring traditions to mind."
