Meurthe-et-Moselle. She is exfiltrated through a window after being kept captive by her husband for three years.

Her ordeal lasted three years... A mother in her thirties, confined to the family apartment by her husband in Laxou Champ-le-Boeuf (Meurthe-et-Moselle), was rescued on Wednesday by firefighters and the police, reports L'Est Republicain.

A passerby heard the cries coming from the balcony of the apartment on the first floor and alerted. The firefighters discovered a locked door on the spot as the husband was not home every day. The firefighters managed to evacuate the 39-year old woman and her 4-year old son through the window, as the husband returned home.

According to her initial statements, she had been in the apartment since 2019 and was prohibited from going out with her husband or using a cell-phone. She reportedly wanted to divorce him soon after they were married. He would have been threatened with a knife to the throat by the latter and he would have to retrieve his identity documents that allowed him to leave the apartment.

The suspect, who is 53 years old and has been unemployed since the collapse of his travel agency due to the pandemic, was placed in police custody. On Thursday, he was placed under judicial surveillance in anticipation of his trial scheduled for September 2.

The entry of a man of Algerian origin to the marital home is strictly prohibited until then.
