Millions from Depp process: Amber Heard's insurance does not want to pay

Following the trial of her ex-husband Johnny Depp, Amber Heard could face a new legal battle. Because her insurance company does not want to pay her any money, she files a lawsuit against the actress. It's supposed to be about a million dollars.

Amber Heard could face another legal battle - this time with her insurance company. The company filed a lawsuit against the "Aquaman" actress in a California court on Friday, according to the Los Angeles Times. The insurance company wants to get a ruling on whether Heard is entitled to money from her insurance after her ex-husband Johnny Depp's defamation lawsuit.

It's said to be about a million dollars. Apparently the company sees no obligation to pay. The new possible lawsuit comes for Heard just weeks after the lost Virginia lawsuit that Johnny Depp brought against her. A 2018 op-ed by the actress in The Washington Post about her experiences with domestic violence, which didn't credit Depp, ruined his reputation, the actor said. As a result, he suffered losses.

The jury found Amber Heard guilty of defamation in the June trial. The fine was $15 million, but due to Virginia law, Heard is only fined $10.35 million. Depp was also fined $2 million.

The jury found that a former lawyer for Depp slandered the actress. According to the Los Angeles Times, Heard's insurance company now claims in the court documents that it is not obliged to pay Heard. The reason: California law provides that "an insurer is not liable for a loss caused by an intentional act of the insured," the lawsuit says. And that's what the jury found in the defamation trial.
