Monica Galetti, a renowned TV chef, has been appointed the first Scottish Seafood Ambassador.

Former MasterChef Professionals judge, will be leading the charge in encouraging UK hospitality venues and restaurants to serve more Scottish seafood.

Seafood from Scotland created the Sea the People campaign. Galetti will be the ambassador.

She supports Scottish-sourced seafood and calls for more shellfish and fish to be sold in the UK.

Galetti visited the Scottish coastal communities in preparation for his role. He spoke to fishermen, oyster growers, processers, and entrepreneurs.

Galetti stated that "Sea the People" is vital as the Scottish seafood industry relies on them to grow and maintain its premium status.

"I would love to see UK retailers and restaurants stock more Scottish fish and shellfish, fished or farmed. Around 80% of the fish is currently exported.

"We all have a responsibility to bring new species to consumers in a way that inspires them to see beyond the familiar. Scottish seafood is synonymous for the highest quality seafood in the world. We should be shouting about this.

Adam Wing, Head of Trade Marketing at Seafood Scotland said that Monica, a chef and restaurateur is well-placed to encourage buyers and young chefs to look closely at our products and help them appreciate the hard work involved in producing high-quality shellfish and fish.

"Scotland's fishing sector is one of the oldest in Britain. Many businesses have been passed down through generations with the knowledge and skills being passed on to their families and communities.

"This combination of knowledge and smart investment in technology and sustainability will ensure that Scottish seafood continues its dominance in global food markets.
