Police said that a man who was found dead in a wooded area died of multiple stab wounds.

The victim, a man in his 20s from Stevenage was found at around 07:30 BST Thursday, off Brittain Road, adjacent to Fairlands Valley Park, in the town. He was declared dead on the spot.

Hertfordshire Police stated that it was investigating "a variety of lines".

They asked anyone who had any information to contact them.

The force has started a murder investigation and asked anyone who saw anything unusual in the area between 20:00 BST Wednesday and 06:00 BST Thursday to contact them.

Det Insp Iain MacPherson stated that the victim's family is being supported by specialist officers. We are trying hard to determine how and who killed this young man.

"I also appeal to anyone who knew the victim or may have any information that could be helpful to us, please get in touch."

Police have not named the victim because he hasn't been officially identified.
