Naturalization: Bayern guard Weiler-Babb is now playing for Germany

Bayern guard Nick Weiler-Babb can play for the German national basketball team in the future. As the German Basketball Association announced on Friday, the native Texan has received his naturalization certificate. The 26-year-old is due to join the squad for the European Championship this Saturday in Cologne. "It's a great thing for us as DBB as well as for him. He's a great guy who will fit well into the national team," said national coach Gordon Herbert according to the announcement.

The Bayern professional has German roots and has been playing in Germany for a good three years - first in Ludwigsburg and since 2020 with Munich, where he recently extended for two more years until 2024.

"After the great experiences with Bayern in the Euroleague, I'm looking forward to the opportunity to prove myself at the high level of the national teams. The long-term perspective with a European Championship in Germany, hopefully with a World Cup, Olympic Games with the German national team and a lot more, that really appeals to me," said Weiler-Babb.

On August 28, Weiler-Babb could appear in a familiar environment in the national jersey. Then the DBB selection denies their World Cup qualifier against Slovenia in the Munich Audi Dome. The European Championship kicks off for the Germans on September 1 against co-favorite France.
