North Rhine-Westphalia: 11,500 people die of lung cancer within a year

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In North Rhine-Westphalia, 11,457 people died of lung and bronchial cancer within a year. As the state statistics office announced on Monday in Düsseldorf, the number of these deaths did not fall significantly in 2020 - there were 12 fewer cases than a year earlier. The average age of these deceased was 72 years on average and thus about 7 years lower than the average age of all deceased. About 60 percent of lung cancer deaths were men. Doctors very often attribute such cancer to smoking.
