North Rhine-Westphalia: 17 and 19-year-olds after ATM blast in custody

Oberhausen (dpa / lnw) - After two ATMs were blown up in Oberhausen, two young people aged 17 and 19 are in custody. The two were arrested near the scene of the crime early Monday morning, as the police in Oberhausen announced on Wednesday. Witnesses had seen the alleged perpetrators flee on scooters, whereupon they were located by a police helicopter, among other things. The police found a bag with some of the stolen cash, clothing and other items on the arrested person, it said. A magistrate on Tuesday ordered the two Dutch suspects to be held in custody. Police and prosecutors are now "meticulously" investigating whether they could have already committed similar crimes.

On Wednesday night there was another ATM blast in Werther, East Westphalia. Witnesses alerted the police and observed the alleged perpetrators after the blast, as a police spokesman in Gütersloh announced on Wednesday. A fleeing car was then observed. The police initially did not provide information on the extent of the damage and whether money was stolen.
