Gelsenkirchen (dpa / lnw) - A 17-year-old driver was seriously injured in an accident after trying to escape from the police. The officials wanted to check the young people on Thursday evening at Ückendorfer Platz in Gelsenkirchen when he came towards them with his car without lights. The police announced on Friday morning.
When the officers tried to stop the young driver, he fled at high speed in the direction of Bonn. Just outside the city limits, he lost control of his car and overturned it. He was seriously injured and was taken to hospital by ambulance. Another car was damaged in the accident.
According to police investigations, the 17-year-old did not have a driver's license and was on drugs. Criminal proceedings were instituted against him.
