North Rhine-Westphalia: 19 months in prison for doctor for abusing a patient

Krefeld (dpa / lnw) - The Krefeld district court has sentenced a doctor to one year and seven months in prison for sexual abuse and coercion of a patient. After hearing evidence lasting several hours, the court was convinced on Thursday that the 34-year-old doctor had exploited the helplessness of the woman, who was weakened by gastrointestinal problems, in a clinic in Nettetal (District Four) in March 2022.

The doctor had denied the allegations. However, he described that he scanned the 31-year-old in the emergency room and then did an ultrasound "to rule out problems with kidney stones and appendix". Because he wasn't sure, he also did a second ultrasound scan on the woman on a different device in a different room.

The woman, in turn, reported that the doctor felt her everywhere during the first examination. The doctor also pressed the back of her hand to his private parts. During the second ultrasound examination in a remote treatment room, the doctor touched her all over again and rubbed his private parts on the back of her hand.

The judges considered the victim's description to be comprehensible. Numerous indications - such as the investigation in a remote room - point to the guilt of the accused, they explained.

The verdict is not yet legally binding. If it becomes final, the man faces the revocation of his medical license.
