Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - In the past ten years, police forces in North Rhine-Westphalia have shot at people 157 times. According to a report by the Ministry of the Interior to the state parliament on Wednesday, 33 people were fatally injured. Accordingly, the numbers are very low compared to the number of operations: since 2012 there have been 51 million operations.
The reason for the evaluation for the state parliament was controversial operations in recent months, including the fatal shot at a 16-year-old in Dortmund. In this case, the investigations of the public prosecutor are still ongoing.
According to the report to the state parliament's interior committee, there have been 20 shots by the police so far this year, four of whom died. There were three deaths last year, four in 2020 and five in 2019.
