Herne (dpa / lnw) - A 42-year-old man has been remanded in custody because he is said to have fatally injured a 53-year-old in Herne. A police spokesman said on Sunday. The man is said to have repeatedly hit a 53-year-old with an object on Friday evening, who then had to undergo emergency surgery. The man's condition stabilized after the operation, according to the prosecutor's office and the police.

The 42-year-old from Castrop-Rauxel is said to have got into a fight with the 53-year-old and three other men aged 35, 39 and 48. In the dispute in the Wanne district, he is said to have injured the three other men as well, but not life-threateningly. The alleged perpetrator was arrested at the scene of the crime and brought before a magistrate over the weekend. The investigators did not provide any further information about the type of object with which the 42-year-old is said to have struck.
