Rheinberg (dpa / lnw) - A 54-year-old electric scooter driver was fatally injured by a car on a pedestrian path in Rheinberg on Wednesday. According to current investigations, a 48-year-old man from Duisburg initially drove past the waiting vehicles in the right-hand lane due to a traffic jam at a traffic light, but then did not turn off, but drove straight ahead onto the pedestrian path. There he collided with the scooter driver who was waiting because of the red light, according to the Wesel district police authority.

"As a result of the collision, the 54-year-old user of the e-scooter was thrown and crashed into the road," the police report said. Despite immediately initiated resuscitation measures, the man from Rheinberg died at the scene of the accident. The Duisburg car driver was slightly injured.
