North Rhine-Westphalia: 88-year-old mother killed: the accused is silent

An 88-year-old woman is found dead in her Oberhausen apartment. The alleged perpetrator is now on trial. It's her son.

Duisburg (dpa / lnw) - After the violent death of an 88-year-old woman from Oberhausen, the son of the victim has had to answer to the court in Duisburg since Thursday. The accused is said to have hit his mother with his fists on the night of December 3, 2021 and then crushed her chest with his weight. The woman choked. At the start of the process, the 53-year-old German did not comment on the allegations. The charge is manslaughter.

The public prosecutor assumes that the former professional driver knelt on his mother during the argument and hit her with "immense force". After the crime, the man reported to the police and said that he had found his mother dead in her apartment. However, the investigators did not believe him and arrested him on the same day.

The accused moved back in with his mother just a few weeks before the crime. In court, the 53-year-old spoke of money problems with the payment of his unemployment benefits.

The Duisburg jury initially scheduled four days of negotiations for the trial. A verdict is expected in mid-September.
