North Rhine-Westphalia: 9-euro ticket dampens rise in inflation rate in NRW

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The nine-euro ticket moderated the increase in the inflation rate in North Rhine-Westphalia in June and July. The so-called "prices for combined passenger transport services" fell by 68.4 percent in both months compared to the corresponding months of the previous year, the State Statistical Office reported on Tuesday in Düsseldorf.

In the "local train journeys" category, prices in June and July were 37.7 percent lower. The statisticians reported that both price declines were essentially due to the introduction of the nine-euro ticket. The declines ensured that the inflation rate in NRW was 0.9 percentage points lower in both months than without a ticket. In June the rate was 7.5 percent and in July it was 7.8 percent.

The so-called tank discount and the elimination of the EEG surcharge for all electricity customers from July 2022 also led to a dampening of inflation, it was said. However, how this affected the inflation rate cannot be determined due to the fluctuating fuel prices and changes in electricity prices.
