North Rhine-Westphalia: a disabled man dies in a fire in an apartment building

Bonn (dpa / lnw) - A disabled man died in a fire in an apartment building in Bonn-Pennenfeld. The fire brigade said in the evening that there were already growing indications that there was still a person in the fire apartment on the first floor when they arrived on Friday afternoon. The resident was found quickly and taken outside, but could not be saved. He died at the scene. His age was initially unknown.

The fire reportedly spread from the apartment to the front of the house. However, the flames were prevented from spreading to other parts of the building. According to the fire brigade, three respiratory protection teams have been deployed to rescue people and fight fires in the house and one team to fight the flames from outside. All other apartments in the apartment building are still habitable. Other people were not injured. It was initially unclear how the fire started.
