Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Since 2016, the number of serious traffic accidents caused by wrong-way drivers in North Rhine-Westphalia has doubled. Their number rose within six years from 19 in 2016 to 40 last year, as the North Rhine-Westphalia Ministry of the Interior announced in response to an AfD request. According to data from the Traffic Information Center, 540 wrong-way drivers were reported on the Autobahn in NRW last year. This means that about every 14th wrong-way trip in 2022 ended in a serious accident.
