The ADAC North Rhine announced on Monday in Cologne that the high potential for congestion affects the Cologne metropolitan area and other motorways in NRW. The motorists' club expects increased traffic on the A1 (Cologne - Dortmund - Osnabrück), A2 (Oberhausen - Hanover), A3 (Oberhausen - Cologne) and the A40 (Dortmund - Venlo).
The two-week autumn break starts next weekend. The Monday after is a public holiday with October 3rd. Therefore, people without school children should also use the long weekend and get in the car. According to the ADAC, there will be the highest volume of traffic on Friday afternoon (September 30th), when commuters, holidaymakers and day-trippers meet on the streets. The organization also expects a high probability of traffic jams on Saturday mornings and Monday afternoons. On Sunday, on the other hand, there should hardly be any traffic jams.
In view of the fuel prices, which fluctuate at a high level, the ADAC recommends filling up the tank in good time and with foresight. "If you don't drive to the gas station on the morning of your departure, but at the latest the evening before, you can often save more than ten cents per liter," said traffic expert Roman Suthold from ADAC. "That's about five euros for a full tank." The prices at the petrol pumps are lowest during the day between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Fuel price apps provide information about the current prices at the gas stations.
