Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The AfD parliamentary group has requested the establishment of a committee of inquiry into the corona measures in North Rhine-Westphalia in the state parliament. "Never before have there been such profound and collectively applicable restrictions on fundamental rights. In the context of the pandemic, we are experiencing an upheaval in fundamental substantive legal standards," explained AfD parliamentary group leader Martin Vincentz before the vote on the application, which, according to the agenda, was scheduled for late Thursday afternoon in the state parliament is planned in Düsseldorf.
A committee of inquiry should now clarify whether these measures in the form of restrictions on fundamental rights are proportionate. In particular, the lockdown measures would have placed a heavy burden on society. "We are committed to having the state government's entire corona policy reviewed in a parliamentary committee of inquiry and to checking that the measures are proportionate to the actual infection process," he explained.
The AfD group alone does not have enough votes to set up a committee of inquiry. According to the state parliament administration, one fifth of the members of the state parliament are required for this, i.e. 39 MPs. The AfD faction has 12.
