North Rhine-Westphalia: AFD politician Blex faces consequences as a party member

Dusseldorf (dpa / lnw) - After the politician Christian Blex was expelled from the AfD parliamentary group, he is also threatened with consequences as a party member. The "Causa Blex" will be discussed at the next state board meeting, said AfD-NRW party leader Martin Vincentz on Wednesday of the German Press Agency. Due to internal deadlines, the meeting was not until October 16th. Vincentz said they would then talk about "possible regulatory measures" against Blex.

Theoretically, a party exclusion procedure would also be possible, but this can take a long time. Vincentz did not want to say whether one is considering such a thing, so as not to anticipate the deliberations. Blex was expelled from the North Rhine-Westphalian AfD parliamentary group on Tuesday after a trip to Russia that was sharply criticized. A state parliament spokesman confirmed on Wednesday that the administration had been officially notified of the exclusion.

At the beginning of last week, Blex traveled to Russia with two AfD members of the state parliament from Saxony-Anhalt and two AfD members from North Rhine-Westphalia. After severe criticism, the AfD politicians canceled their trip and waived the originally planned visit to the Russian-occupied Donbass in eastern Ukraine.

In a letter to the parliamentary group, Blex had announced, according to WDR, that he had paid for the trip himself and that it had no connection to the parliamentary group. In his view, there was no misconduct. Now he can't get away from Russia because the partial mobilization is causing a rush for flights abroad.
