North Rhine-Westphalia: after fleeing the scene of the crime: police officers fight for their job

Two policewomen leave their colleagues in the hail of bullets. They are now fighting for their professional future before the district court in Hagen.

Hagen (dpa / lnw) - After fleeing a shooting in Gevelsberg, two policewomen have been fighting for their professional future in front of the Hagen district court since Monday. In May 2020, a driver suddenly shot at two of the accused's colleagues during a traffic check. The policewomen saw one of the officers fall to the ground and fled without firing a warning shot or calling for backup. In November 2021, the Schwelm District Court then sentenced the policewomen to one year's probation for attempted dangerous bodily harm in office through omission. If this judgment were to become final, the 33 and 38-year-old officers would no longer have the opportunity to continue working as police officers.
