North Rhine-Westphalia: After the Corona break: Rheinkirmes in Düsseldorf begins

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The Düsseldorf Rheinkirmes starts again: After a two-year Corona break, the folk festival opens its doors on Friday (2 p.m.). According to the organizers, visitors can look forward to around 20 innovations this year. The fair runs on the Oberkasseler Rheinwiesen until July 24th.

Around 300 showmen from Germany and abroad present their attractions. In addition to roller coasters and carousels, there is also a program in the brewery tents - but without the party song "Layla". The organizers of the St. Sebastianus shooting club made a corresponding decision in advance. "I think this song belongs everywhere - just not on our fairground," said Schützen boss Lothar Inden of the German Press Agency.

The Rheinkirmes is one of the largest folk festivals in North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2020 and 2021 the fair was canceled due to the corona pandemic. Up to four million visitors usually come.
