North Rhine-Westphalia: After XY program: Police receive information in the parsonage case

Recklinghausen/Marl (dpa/lnw) - After the broadcast of a mysterious case in a vicarage in Marl on the TV show "Aktenzeichen XY... unsolved" on Wednesday evening, the police in Recklinghausen received some information. "In the evening and during the night, there were some tips from viewers that now have to be viewed and evaluated," said a police spokeswoman on Thursday morning when asked. "Of course we hope that there will be something useful. That's all we can say at the moment."

A man is being sought who attacked and threatened a Catholic pastor in Marl on April 23, 2021. The approximately 50-year-old, 1.75 meter tall and "chubby" stranger had threatened the clergyman in the vicarage in the Hamm district with a pistol and pepper spray and demanded money from the safe, which he did not get. The pastor recognized the hooded intruder because he had already visited him several times under a presumably false name and asked for money. Because the man was obviously in an emergency, the pastor did not call the police at first, but later wanted to meet with the perpetrator to find out more. However, the stranger did not show up for the appointment and has since disappeared.
