North Rhine-Westphalia: Alleged cyber attack in the state parliament was a false alarm

Relief in the state parliament: The suspected attack by hackers on the computer of a Green MP was not. Investigators have since found that out.

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - A suspected cyber attack on the computer of a Green MP in the Düsseldorf state parliament has turned out to be a false alarm. According to the central and contact point for cybercrime (ZAC) of the Cologne public prosecutor's office, the deputy's computer has now been checked by specialists. No malware was found. Presumably someone did research on the computer and then came up with the suspicious IP address unsuspectingly.

Specifically, it was about connection attempts on September 25th and October 5th. At first, investigators feared outside interference. The competent public prosecutor's office investigated on suspicion of computer sabotage. According to dpa information, a year and a half ago there was a warning from the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) about the IP address that had triggered the alarm in the state parliament system. In the meantime, however, the address no longer seems to be used by hackers.
