North Rhine-Westphalia: Alleged IS terrorist in Düsseldorf in court

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - A 25-year-old woman from Dortmund has had to answer to the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court since Thursday as a suspected IS terrorist. The Salafist traveled to Syria in 2014 and joined the Islamic State there, according to the indictment by the federal prosecutor.

Because the accused was still a minor when the crime began, the court excluded the public from the beginning of the trial on Thursday, a spokeswoman said.

The accused has been a follower of radical Salafism since 2013. In July 2014, she traveled from Germany via Turkey to Syria with her like-minded husband, whom she married according to Islamic rites, and there she joined the terrorist organization Islamic State, according to the indictment.

While her husband was a fighter for IS, the young German received money from IS and took care of the household and children.

The woman also trained with firearms herself in order to be able to fight for IS. Federal prosecutors accuse her of having agreed to carry out a suicide attack in Germany. However, the project was not pursued further.

Instead, the accused advertised IS on the Internet and tried to persuade girls and women from Germany to travel to Syria and gave them tips. At the beginning of 2019 she was taken prisoner by Kurds.

When she returned to Germany, she was arrested on March 31 of this year. Since then she has been in custody. The court has scheduled 15 days of hearings for the trial until December.
